PACIFIC NORTHWEST TELEVISION BROADCAST REMOTE AND STUDIO EMPLOYEES IATSE, or the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, is a labor union representing over 150,000 technicians, artisans, and craftspersons in the entertainment industry, including live theater, motion picture, television production, and trade shows in the U.S. and Canada.

Founded in 1893, IATSE is made up of local unions across North America. Each local has its own specific focus, ranging from stagehands to studio mechanics to motion picture and, more recently, television broadcast operators.

IATSE Local 793 was established in 1998 in Washington and Oregon State to address the inequalities and issues that arose between television broadcast companies and their remote and studio employees. Currently, we are approximately 170 members strong, with a robust referral list!


Here are a few key points about IATSE Local 793:

1. Broad Representation: While many people associate IATSE with stagehands, the union actually represents a wide array of professions. IATSE Local 793 represents
the following crafts in the PNW:



Inclusions: Technical Directors, Audio A-1, Audio A-2, Specialty Microphone Operator, Video V-1, Video V-2, Graphics Operator, Graphics Coordinator, Camera Operators, (CPO-1), Capture Playback Operator I, (CPO-2) Capture Playback Operator 2, (CPO-3) Capture Playback Operator 3, Score Box Operator, Utility, Phone AD, Assistant Director / Stage Manager, Statistician, Runner, Time Out Coordinator, ENG/ EFP Grip, ENG/ EFP Operator, Trainees, and others who are similar technical crew positions

2. Collective Bargaining: IATSE works to negotiate better wages, working conditions, and benefits for its members through collective bargaining agreements with employers. Here is a current list of employers members have

Pacific Coast Crewing, Inc., Program Productions, Inc., LDM, and Rush Media, as well as having organized Angel’s of the Winds Arena, located in Everett, Washington.

3. Activism: IATSE is actively involved in various political and social issues that impact its members, especially concerning labor rights and workplace safety. As a local arm of the general office, IATSE 793’s objective is to support this vision by assisting television broadcast employees — both studio and remote — obtain better working conditions, wages, and benefits that can support the economic needs in the pursuit of happiness.

Over the years, IATSE has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of the entertainment industry, ensuring that workers receive fair compensation and safe working conditions.
