From Joel Salkowitz: You may need to read this on a computer for the number to align up correctly.
Here’s a simple spreadsheet (file also attached) that lays out the info for the new MSG Rates.  Reading across the columns it shows the daily rate totals for:

1. The Old Rate Card Rates for both NBA & NHL
2. The “Rate Card + $4/hr Flex Plan Contribution” that was voted down.
3. The New Article 44 rates including the new 3rd tier for Utilities. (10 hour day)
4. The new Article 44 rates including the new 3rd tier with the $2/hr Flex Plan Contribution included. Total compensation for 10 hr day.

                                                               Highlights:

1. First and most important, it gets everyone on the Away shows off the rate cards and, onto Article 44 rates and tied to future increases for staff & home show.  The new contract has 2% raise annually.
2. It begins medical contributions for the Away shows.
3. EVERYONE (with the exception of Bug Ops on the Knicks show) is getting a raise!  On the Rangers show, the Bug Ops are getting a 32% increase.  This is because there was already a Bug Op Rate included in Article 44.
4. The Utilities are getting the BIGGEST raise overall.  Just over 30% including the medical contributions.
5. Hand Held Cameras go to the TD/A1/Lead EVS (“tier 1″) rate.

Those are the main points.  I think we ended up with a good deal here.  It accomplished what we understood to be the main objective of the Freelancers and that was to get us off the rate card and onto Article 44.

The overall increase for the contract from the rate card is about 16%.

Erik Brush & I along with the rest of the team representing the Freelancers/Away Shows feel very strongly that this was an excellent outcome and a long time coming.  We strongly endorse the Freelance community voting to ratify this new agreement.  The new rates would take effect 2 weeks after MSG is notified that the agreement has been ratified.  A meeting is supposed to be scheduled for next Thursdaymorning at the IBEW office to present this to the membership.  Ballots will be sent out following that meeting.
